The SKA Observatory

The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is a global collaboration of countries which is building two cutting-edge radio telescopes to answer some of the most important questions about the Universe. The SKAO telescopes will be the largest and most complex radio telescope networks ever built, with 197 radio telescope dishes located in South Africa and more than 130,000 antennas located in Australia, both in remote locations far away from sources of radio interference. The SKAO global headquarters are located at Jodrell Bank, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is also the home of The University of Manchester’s Lovell Telescope and e-MERLIN, the UK’s national radio astronomy facility.

Visit the SKAO stand to meet some of the team involved in designing and constructing the telescopes. Learn about how the telescopes will help us study the first stars and galaxies in the early Universe, as well as exoplanets, black holes and even gravitational waves.
