What we do:
November will mark six years of South London based DJs and label Deptford Northern Soul Club and Deptford Northern Soul Club Records respectively. From a sell-out one off at Deptford’s now legendary Bunker Club in 2016, Will Foot and Lewis Henderson have taken their hard-hitting breed of Northern Soul up and down the UK and over to mainland Europe, from Glastonbury to Green Man, from Bristol to Glasgow, from Dublin to Deptford; featuring soul stompers, heavy horns, joyous perspiration, ecstatically harmonious strings, dance moves you’ve never seen before and a hangover you’ll want to forget.

The past two years has seen Will and Lewis launch their re-issue label Deptford Northern Soul Club Records/DNSC.r with the aim of reintroducing the most coveted, lost, rare and unreleased Soul, Funk and proto-Disco back into the market at the best quality. With their aim of leveling the playing field for both DJs and music fans alike, the boys have brought fresh cuts from dance music pioneers; Sebastian Williams, Garnet Mimms, The Delreys Incorporated, Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, to name a few. Now these dance-centric soul records are back on the scene for the next generation of party goers, audiophiles and DJs with the overarching aim to bring Northern Soul back into the conversation of modern dance music.
Post-pandemic Deptford Northern Soul Club have continue their residencies at both East London’s Moth Club and in The Pink Room at Manchester’s Yes and hit the road to bring some much needed excitement back to the people up and down the UK. 2022 has seen the boys return to Glastonbury and Green Man festivals before take their nights to the obvious next step with two massive shows at EartH, London and New Century, Manchester.
DNSC are ecstatic to see a rebirth to clubbing and the sense of community that can exist within four walls while records are spinning. It is one of the only oases in a confusing, dark, and twisted world. Long live clubbing culture. Long live Northern Soul. Long live togetherness. Long live a heavenly utopic future. And finally; long live Deptford Northern Soul Club.
A bit of background info on what we’ve done:
Deptford Northern Soul Club started in November 2016 with a sold-out show at Bunker Club in Deptford. Due to popular demand they returned to spin records as part of a monthly residency at the club – that still continues on and off to this day! Since then, backed by regular sell-out nights with queues down the street, Will and Lewis took the party to Glastonbury Festival 2017 playing to over 1500 people at William’s Green stage where they were listed as number 20 in the top attractions at the festival.
Since then the boys played at End of The Road Festival, Norman Jay MBE’s Good Times Goes East party in Hackney and the Q Awards at the Roundhouse in Camden. In November 2017 they went on tour around the UK and Ireland.
The summer of 2018 boasted nights at Corsica Studios – London, Menagerie – Belfast and The Junction – Cambridge, to name a few. DNSC also hit the festival circuit to headline the coveted After Dark slot on The Walled Garden stage at Green Man Festival in Wales spinning tunes to well over 1.5k festival goers.
The boys took their records up to Manchester to start a monthly residency at YES, cementing themselves in the north with a massive sell out debut all before heading out on a mini pre NYE tour debuting Brighton, Komedia and iconic East London venue, The Shacklewell Arms. DNSC also returned to the Roundhouse, Camden to play at the Q Awards with Idles and Wolf Alice.
In the run up to the 2019 summer DNSC joined the campaign to Save The Social raising money to save the iconic Soho venue, hit up the Queens Yard Summer Party in Hackney, and debuted Bristol’s Thekla.
June saw Will and Lewis return to Glastonbury Festival playing five times over the weekend including The Meat Rack in NYC Downlow, William’s Green and the Deluxe Diner in Shangri La. The duo also returned to Green Man Festival in Wales and went to Scotland for the first time playing at Rost and La Belle Angele in Galsgow and Edinburgh stopping off to play at The Hare & Hounds in Birmingham and Rescue Rooms in Nottingham. 2019 was also marked the formation of DNSC.r (Deptford Northern Soul Club Records) and saw the first reissue of Lester Tipton – This Won’t Change/Edward Hamilton – Baby Don’t You Weep.
2020 marked the start of a new residency at Moth Club in Hackney. Over the fallow period of the COVID-19 pandemic Will and Lewis both worked to expand DNSC.r putting out rare, lost and unreleased records, the way they were made to be heard. Just to mention a few names they have put to wax; Sebastian Williams, The Soul Stirrers, Spinners, Candi Staton, Doris Willingham, Jackie Wilson, The Delreys Incorporated, Garnet Mimms and Doris & Kelley…
2021 looks to show signs of a return to clubbing and with it comes the opportunity to get back to what the boys love most and marks a return to their residents at both Moth Club and YES. After the sad passing of Anne Bocking things are on hold at Bunker Club. It’ll always be the home of DNSC and one day will come back. All the love in the world for Anne, a true bastian of culture at the heart of everything great in South London. You will always have a place in our hearts.
Summer 2021 saw Will and Lewis back on the bill at Green Man Festival, Camp Bestival, Love Hangover Festival as well as back at Peckham Audio and Night Tales.
