Deep Deep Water
“We’re a generation that’s drowning under the weight of all the bad decisions and selfishness of past generations, we’re a generation offloaded into trouble, into some deep, deep water”. So say Talia Cohen, Frankie Bowmaker, Bernard Steen and Jimmy Sheals: the London-based four-piece who borrow the phrase to give a name to their singular brand of ennui-drenched, dub-inflected pop.
On Deep Deep Water’s crystalline debut EP, expect Sheals’ trademark acrobatics behind the drums, accompanied by Steen’s deft synthesis, Bowmaker’s languid guitar lines, and an ebbing, flowing vocal from Cohen. Released early 2019 on Aphrodite, a new label by Greco-Roman co-founder Alexander Waldron.
