Abandon Normal Devices (AND) has commissioned Addie Wagneknecht for the second edition of COSMOS – an art-science residency exploring deep space. Culminating at bluedot, the audio-visual work developed wil be projected onto the Lovell Telescope.

Addie Wagenknecht is an Austrian based American artist, her work explores the tension between expression and technology. She seeks to blend conceptual work with forms of hacking and sculpture, and deals primarily with ideas relating pop culture, feminist theory,and hardware. Wagenknecht is the founder of Deep Lab and Chair of the Open Hardware Summit at MIT. She holds a Masters degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University, and has previously held fellowships at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center in New York City, Culture Lab UK and The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University among others. Wagenknecht will be working with Stefan Hechenberger, as the production studio Nortd, for COSMOS18 – the audio-visual work developed to be projected onto the Lovell Telescope.

Their collaboration launched in 2007 from a small project space in the Lower East Side, New York and has since moved to Innsbruck, Austria. Their work has been featured in major biennials (Vienna, Moscow, and Istanbul) and acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art. They have collaborated with Chanel and i-D magazine on a series exploring the sixth sense and recently held solo exhibitions at Bitforms gallery in New York City, MU in Eindhoven, Netherlands and Haus der elektronischen Künste in Basel, Switzerland.
